WWWATER SCREEN

The Belgian-based artist Charlotte Adigéry is back in full force with new single ‘Screen’. Some may remember WWWater for her spectral vocals and spiritual waterfall awakening, but now she’s going through a whole new kind of awakening in the age of mass digital consumption. ‘Screen’ challenges our obsession with social media, with vanity, with selfies, with objectifying and festishing ourselves and others through the screens that dominate our version. WWWater does this with undeniable energy and a punk sensibility that radiates through the bruised bass, shattered drums and warped electronics that are put to full use through the track. Not only does she point out the problems with this current aspect of society, but Adigéry’s sage lyrics also counter with a root cause of why we can’t seem to put this fire out, from a behind-the-screen perspective as well. As her vocal shouts, screams and echoes, 'I cannot live with myself any longer / I can’t stand being alone any longer'. The language that this artist uses is also telling, for example 'I can’t' and 'I need', depicting negative emotions and the deep-seated feeling of lacking something. WWWater has channeled the frustration and dissatisfaction of a whole generation born into the digital era into a powerful song that will leave you shook and wanting to make a change, at least for yourself. - Hannah Thacker
